Learn about family involvement in our teen rehab program.
As a parent, it can be difficult to enroll your son in a boarding school teen rehab program, but it’s even more difficult when you know he’ll be away from you for 9-12 months. If you’ve decided that it’s time to intervene and enroll your son in Ozarks Teen Challenge behavioral therapy program, we are here to help you through the process.
At Ozarks Teen Challenge, family involvement is an integral part of the recovery process as well as maintaining personal growth after your son graduates. We know that full recovery isn’t just an individual effort – it requires effort from the entire family unit to heal broken relationships, encourage healthy communication and start anew.
The Importance of Family Involvement in Teen Rehab
The family dynamic plays a huge role in teen rehab. Even before admittance into a youth program for troubled teens, it is important that your family approaches your son in a loving and caring way to address behavioral concerns that are affecting the entire family unit.
During treatment, frequent family involvement is highly encouraged and can be very beneficial to both your son and the rest of the family. Oftentimes, you may actually be enabling your son’s behavior without even realizing it, and by removing your son from that environment, it gives you a fresh perspective on the situation while also giving your son a distraction-free place to reflect on his behaviors and motivations.
Additionally, there may be a lot of bitterness and anger that has built up as your son’s addiction or behavioral issues have increased. Taking the time to step outside of the situation while your son is at teen rehab is a great opportunity to asses your own behaviors and actions in response to his behavioral issues. In learning how you can better respond to issues that arise at home, you can help him maintain his personal growth and recovery after he completes his rehab program.
Even while he’s away at teen rehab, your son needs to know that you and your entire family are rooting for him. By being involved in every step of his recovery process, you can help provide the support he needs to keep fighting.
Family Involvement at Ozarks Teen Challenge
At Ozarks Teen Challenge, we recognize that family reconciliation is equally as important as your son’s individual rehab process. Our Christian boarding school for troubled boys encourages family involvement in a number of different ways.
Family Weekends
Once every two months your family will have the opportunity to reconnect with your son at the Ozarks Teen Challenge campus. Our family weekends include worship services, educational programming and plenty of time to catch up and discuss what your son has been learning through our youth program.
Regular Parental Communication
With regular parental communication, you will stay informed about your son’s progress in his teen rehab program. Each family is assigned a contact at Ozarks Teen Challenge who will provide you with bi-weekly updates on your son’s progress and you’ll also receive thorough monthly progress reports detailing behavioral, spiritual and academic progress. In addition to that, you’ll have a weekly phone call with your son and both parties are encouraged to send letters back and forth on a regular basis.
Student Passes
Your son will have the opportunity to earn passes as he demonstrates more responsibility and personal growth throughout the course of his teen rehab. These passes correspond with our family weekends and can also be used for visits back home during Phase 4 and 5 of our program.
Here at Ozarks Teen Challenge, we want to encourage you during this difficult time. We understand how hard it can be to make the decision to enroll your son, but we want you to feel secure in knowing that we value family involvement during the rehab process and we will do everything we can to facilitate family reconciliation.
